Membership
Membership fees are $25 per person, or $40 per family.  You must be a
member in good standing to be eligible for the end of series awards.  Your
points will not count until you are a member.   You will only receive points
for that day if you have purchased a membership prior to the start of that
class.  For example if you participate in the September and October events
as a non-member, and do not pay for a membership until November, you
will not receive points for the September and October events.
ONLY MEMBERSHIPS CAN BE PAID BY CHECK. (MADE PAYABLE TO
WAYNE DUTTON.)

Series Information
The results from each class will be available after the class.  Any questions
regarding results must be discussed before you leave.  Once you leave
then all results stand as posted and may not be contested.
You must participate in four (4) events to be eligible for the series awards.
Even though you may not place to win any day money, keep in mind that you
may receive points toward the series end prizes.
If you are eligible to win series end prizes, you must participate in the finals
in order to receive those prizes.  In the event that something out of your
control happens and you are not able to attend, you may be excused if the
producer previously approves it.
10 participation points will be given to each member who participates in the
Ranch Sorting, Barrel Race or Team Roping.
The total points for each individual member will be posted on the Current
Standings Page on the website (www.garanchsorting.com).
Awards will be awarded at the last event of the series for the following:
Ranch Sorting:     High Point Open Class
                              High Point Youth Class
                              High Point Novice Class
Barrel Race:         High Point Pee Wee - 12 & Under
                              High Point Youth - 13 - 17
                              High Point Adult - 18 & Over
                              High Point Open
Team Roping:      High Point Header
                              High Point Heeler
Ranch Sorting
There will be 50% payback.
Wayne Dutton Livestock Ranch Sorting is NOT a “Sanctioned Event”.
You must be classified a either an Open or Novice Rider.
Wayne Dutton Livestock reserves the right to classify riders at any time.
Open Class: Books Open at 9:00 am, Books Close at 9:45 am.  Sorting
begins at 10:00 am.  $25 per person
A Novice Rider is allowed to ride in the Open Class.
You are only eligible for series end prizes in one division
Youth Class (14 & under): Books will be open for 15 minutes after the
open class ends.
 $15 per youth.  Youth can ride with an adult, but only the
youth will pay an entry fee and be eligible for series end awards in the youth
class.  Youth participants can ride in any of the other classes.
Novice Class: Books will be open for 15 minutes after the youth class
ends.
 $25 per person
If you are a Novice Series Champion from a previous series, you must ride
as an Open Rider.
Open Rider are allowed to ride in the novice class as long as they enter
with a novice rider.  Both riders are eligible for money, only the novice rider
would be eligible for points.
Payback will be done on the average for the team, rather than the individual
round.
Number of places paid is determined by the number of teams.
Points will be given per individual, not by team.
Points are received per individual per class.
One individual can enter multiple times per class, with a different team
partner.
LIMIT OF 5 RIDES PER PERSON, PER CLASS.
Points will be awarded in on a 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 basis for 1st place
through 10th place among members, regardless of the number of entries
or paying places.  
Final points for each sorting are computed on the average between the two
rounds, not on an accumulation of point per round per team entry.
There are two rounds in each sorting class per team entry.
At the end of the two rounds during the finals, the points will be totaled for
that day and for the entire series in order to determine Final Awards per
individual.
Points and placing will be given based on the total number of cattle sorted
in two rounds, first.  If there is a tie of the number of cattle sorted, the fastest
time will determine the higher place.
If there are not enough teams with cattle in both rounds to fill ten places,
then points and money will be given accordingly for the most cattle sorted
in one round.  Note: a team with cattle sorted in both rounds will always
beat a team with cattle sorted in only one round.
If a team places and only one person on the team is a member then that
person will receive the points they are due for that place.
If a team places and neither person is a member they will only be eligible
for the day money and no points will be given for that place. Example: if the
2nd place team is not a member then no points will be given for 2nd place
in that sorting.  If one person is a member he would receive 9 points.
In the event of a tie, points and money if eligible will be totaled for that place
plus the next appropriate place and divided equally between the teams.
Example: two teams tie for 2nd place then 2nd and 3rd place points will be
totaled and split, each member would receive 8.5 points and the next
available points would be 4th place.
No points will be given for places that do not have any cattle sorted.
Ranch Sorting is a timed event consisting of two riders with the objective of
sorting ten head of cattle from one pen into another in a designated
sequence.  
Ranch Sorting will take place between two pens of approximately equal
size with the event producer’s option of working cattle back and forth or only
one way
There will be a 90 second clock for each class.
Cow Spotting from the sidelines will not be allowed.
There will be a minimum of one judge per sorting to be positioned evenly
with the foul line.
When the nose of the first horse crosses the start/foul line, the announcer
will provide the number to be sorted first.  Any delay in crossing the foul line
may result in a ‘no time’ for the team.
The cattle are sorted in order.  If any part of a numbered cow crosses the
start/foul line prior to its correct order, then the team receives a no-time.  If
any part of a sorted cow re-crosses the start/foul line the team will be
disqualified.  If any part of an unnumbered cow crosses the foul line before
the tenth cow is cleanly sorted, it will result in a no-time.
The order of sorting is determined by the picking of a random number by
the announcer/timer and then that cow must be sorted first.  For instance, if
5 is drawn as the first number, 5 is sorted first, then cow 6 must be sorted,
7, 8, 9, 0, 1 and so on.  A cow is considered sorted when any part of the
cow crosses the start/foul line.
Decision of the judge is final.
(Reminder, this is only for Ranch Sorting Series Presented by Wayne
Dutton Livestock, and does not apply to any other sorting event or
competition.)

Barrel Race
Exhibition: not to start before 3:00 pm - $4 per run
Pee Wee - 12 & Under: $19 per run (includes a $4 timer fee)
Youth - 13 – 17: $19 per run (includes a $4 timer fee)
Adult - 18 & Over: $24 per run (includes a $4 timer fee)
Open: $24 per run (includes a $4 timer fee)
This is a timed event using three identical barrels in a cloverleaf pattern.
The ground around the barrels will be reworked and leveled after each 10
or fewer contestants have competed.
A contestant will be given a “no time” for missing the pattern
A contestant will be given a 5 second penalty for knocking over a barrel.  
Touching barrel is permitted
A contestant will be given a no time if the horse or rider falls during the run
in such a manner as to break the pattern, or if the rider falls off the horse.
Contestants may ride any horse, and may ride as many horses as they
choose in a class.  However, a horse may not be shown by more than one
person in a class.
Entries for a class will close when the first horse in that class runs.
Only one horse may be in the arena at any time during competition.
Re-runs shall be granted if the timer fails to work properly or if the barrels
are not placed properly on their markers.
Points will be awarded in all classes on a 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 basis
for 1st place through 10th place among members, regardless of the
number of entries or paying places.  .  In the event of a tie, points and
money if eligible will be totaled for that place plus the next appropriate
place and divided between the riders. Example: two riders tie for 2nd place
then 2nd and 3rd place points will be totaled and split, each member would
receive 8.5 points and the next available points would be 4th place.
Should fewer than ten horses place in a class, points will be awarded
beginning with ten points for 1st place.
Competitors may ride as many horses as they wish in each class.  
However the competitor with multiple entries will receive points only for the
first horse they run in each class.
Points in all classes are awarded to the rider.
Number of places paid is determined by the number of entries.

Team Roping
Team Roping will not start before 6:00 pm.
$100 per person, 30 second average round robin, capped @ #6.
There are only 3 legal head catches: 1) Around both horns, 2) half head, 3)
around the neck.  If Hondo passes over one horn and the loop over the
other, catch is illegal.  If a loop crosses itself in a head catch, it is illegal.  
This does not include heel catches.  Any heel catch behind both shoulders
is legal if rope goes up heels.  All bridle catches are considered illegal.  A 5
second penalty will be added if the heeler only catches one leg.
Time will be taken when the steer is roped, secure between both partners,
and the heel rope is dallied and tight.  Horse’s front feet must be on the
ground and ropers must be mounted when time is taken.  Steer must be
standing up when roped by head or heels.  Time is taken when flag is
dropped, however that time is not official until indication is given by the
flagger or field judge to the timer or secretary.  Flagger may flag a team out
after time is taken on a run, based on an illegal head catch or illegal heel
catch, steer was not secure or any other factor that was not clear when time
was taken.
Any heeler 60 years or older may tie on regardless of classification
number.  Any heeler with a classification of Elite #6 or less will be permitted
to tie on as of their 55th birthday.  Ladies who heel may tie on.  Under no
circumstances will any header be permitted to tie on.  Children 12 years or
younger may not tie on.  It is illegal to dally over the top of a tied on rope or
tie on device, the result is automatic disqualification.  Furthermore, should
a tied on rope inadvertently come loose from the saddle horn or otherwise
become detached during the course of a run, the team will be disqualified.  
In other words, the roper may not reattach his/her rope or dally with a loose
tied on rope.  Wayne Dutton Livestock encourages tie on ropers to use a
quick release for tied on ropes.  Wayne Dutton Livestock reserves the right
to grant special tie on permission.
The header must have control of the steers head and the steer’s head
must be bent before the heeler can legally deliver his or her rope.  In other
words, the heeler may rope the steer in the switch but not before.  Any heel
loop delivered before the switch is considered a crossfire and illegal.  In
the instance where a steer sets up, at no fault of the roper, the heel loop
can be thrown at any time once the header has control of the steer.
If the heeler ropes a front foot or feet in the heel loop, this is a foul catch.  
Should the front foot or feet come out of the heel loop prior to the team
calling for time, the time will be counted.  Judge will not allow any extra time
for a front leg to come free.
Should a header rope any leg it is an automatic no time.  Under no
circumstance will the header be allowed to fish out the leg.
A team will be disqualified if at any time during the course of a run if a roper
touches the ground.
The decision of the judge will be final.
Should the barrier/timer malfunction during the natural course of a
competition either for the roper or against the roper, the field judge may
offer the option of awarding a rerun or removing the barrier penalty (the
steer need not be qualified on to receive a rerun.)   However, there shall be
no question or disagreement that this situation occurred.
Height of the barrier shall be from 32 to 36 inches, measured at the center
of the box.
All score line lengths are to be set by the producer in accordance with
arena conditions.  Every effort should be made to avoid 5 second runs, at
the same time; every effort should be made to avoid allowing any team to
be outrun.
A 5 second penalty will be added for beating the barrier.
If the roping stock is visibly injured as the run begins, including a broken
horn, the team must declare themselves by pulling up immediately.
If in the opinion of the judge a non-visible broken horn existed prior to the
beginning of a run, he has the option to declare a rerun.  However, no rerun
shall be awarded where clearly the broken horn was caused by the run
itself, or if the judge suspects the broken horn occurred during the run.  If
run is completed and time taken, even though a broken horn is clearly
visible, time shall stand, and field judge will remove that animal from the
draw.
Wayne Dutton Livestock or Wayne Dutton Livestock Official(s) reserve the
right to withdraw any steer from the herd at any time.  Removal from draw
does not result in a rerun for the team roping a steer removed from the
herd.  However a rerun maybe awarded if in the opinion of the producer
supported by the field judge and/or officials working the roping, that a steer
in question did not afford a team the opportunity to compete.
All roping stock will have horn wraps, which offer protection for both the
ears, and the base of the horns.
Judge may stop a run at any time he observes an injured animal, to remove
that animal from competition.  This action will result in a rerun for
contestants.
